Swashbuckler/mage:

Jack-of-all-trades, much better then Fighter/Thief/Mage.

In several ways, the Swashbuckler is a better warrior than a fighter. He gains +1 to AC every 5 levels, so while a fighter starts out with 10 AC (before DEX and armor), the Swashbuckler has 9. At level 10 this goes to 8 etc. (still before armor and DEX). Also, unlike a thief, the Swashbuckler can SPECIALIZE in a weapon (2 * proficiency) to get an extra +1 to hit and +2 to damage. Combine this with the +1 to hit and damage bonus every 5 levels, and even at the start of the game it would be +2 to hit and +3 damage. Not as good as the Kensai's bonuses, but then again, the Swashbuckler isn't a Fighter either.

And the Swashbuckler can fight well two handed (3 stars in Two Weapon style). Add mage enhancement/protection spells, and you can put him on the front line. There are many powerful thieves’ weapons, which provide good fighter or mage bonuses, sometimes both (Dak’kon’s Zerth Blade katana and Staff of the Magi are examples). From the start, I would put 2 * on Long Swords. Katanas are even better, but you can only have 1 * (bug?). And you can use most magical items in the game.

Don’t forget, you can use almost any thief skill (except backstab). And, if you chose to dual early enough (level 10?), you can become very powerful mage. Chose any alignment you want, and play pretty much any style you prefer.
