Вполне возможно,что и ничего особенного, т.к. есть серии, где ездят на практически серийных машинах.
Все таки он ее усовершенствовал, Фокс и Спейд правы. В Америке популярны гонки - так называемые - драг-рейсинг. А в них как раз важно ехать по прямой и очень быстро.
Пример таких гонок можно увидеть во втором фильме Лукаса - «Американские граффити» И вот что об этом сам говорит

They were all composite characters, based on my life, and on the lives of friends of mine. Some were killed in Vietnam, and quite a number were killed in auto accidents."
